The Hardest Conversation You Shouldn't Avoid.

Estate planning isn’t only for the wealthy trying to reduce their tax burden. It is for anyone who wishes to spare their loved ones stress and confusion in the aftermath of their passing.  I’ve learned that the hardest conversations are often the most important ones, especially when it comes to protecting the people we love.

Here are a few things I encourage everyone to talk about—with honesty, clarity, and heart.

1. Funeral Wishes: What kind of goodbye do you want? Something traditional? Something joyful and personal? Whether it’s burial or cremation, prayers or a playlist—letting your family know ahead of time can be a huge relief when the time comes.

2. Passing Down What Matters: I’ve seen how unclear plans around money or property can create tension (and even heartbreak). Talking now about who gets what—and why—can help avoid confusion and protect relationships down the line.

3. Health Care Decisions: If you were seriously ill and couldn’t speak for yourself, what would you want? A living will or health care directive can guide your loved ones when it matters most. It’s a gift of clarity in a tough moment.

4. Power of Attorney: Choosing someone to handle your finances or medical choices if you can’t isn’t just smart—it’s essential. Pick someone you trust, and talk it through.

I know it’s not easy. But these conversations are acts of love. And you don’t have to figure it out alone. If you're ready to start the process—or just have questions—I’d be honored to help ask the questions and figure out the answers. I offer a free consultation, and we can talk through everything at your pace.
